Much of the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) derived from the same philosophical bases that contributed to the development of Taoist philosophy, and reflects the classical Chinese belief that individual human experiences express causative principles effective in the environment at all scales.

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine

Each herbal medicine prescription is a cocktail of many herbs tailored to the individual patient. Our practitioners usually design a remedy using one or two main ingredients that target the illness. They will then add many other ingredients to adjust the formula to the patient's yin/yang conditions. This requires great experience and knowledge, and make the difference between a good Chinese herbal doctor and an amateur. Unlike western medications, the balance and interaction of all the ingredients are considered more important than the effect of individual ingredients. A key to success in TCM is the treatment of each patient as an individual.

Chinese herbology often incorporates ingredients from all parts of plants, the leaf, stem, flower, root, and also ingredients from animals and minerals.

What is Acupuncture?

Traditional Chinese medicine has been around for centuries and throughout this entire period acupuncture has definitely demonstrated its many benefits. Today, it is considered by doctors and other healthcare professionals as a natural and safe alternative to modern medicine, being performed all over the world. In the past few years, acupuncture clinics and their specialists have started to present their services online, knowing very well the increased use of this resource.

Being almost 2000 years old, acupuncture is part of alternative medicine, being based on the concept that the body has a natural ability of self-healing if it is stimulated the right way. Dr Qi-long Chen, our Health care professional will be able to bring that balance back to your body, helping you to escape the current upsetting symptoms but also increasing your immune system. Let's take the example of headaches, as these represent one of the most common reasons people have become interested in acupuncture. Such type of pain has various intensities but also diverse patterns, being caused by regular stress but also a wide variety of medical complaints. Dr Chen will use needles to stimulate specific acupoints that will deal with the root cause of the problem and not the actual symptom.

If taking analgesics is the usual way to treat a headache, you will discover that the techniques performed by acupuncturists are much more pleasant and effective. No matter if your headache is caused by allergies, the inflammation of sinuses or a large intake of caffeine, all of these problems can be resolved with alternative medical care such as acupressure. Acupoints are applied pressure on for a half of minute, with additional movements, tapping and squeezing. By stimulating specific acupoints, certain substances are released into the body (endorphins among many others) and the pain pattern is dissolved. The natural substances have an actual influence on the original substances that have caused the pain to appear.

Will the needles hurt?

The short answer is NO. The needles are extremely thin and thus cannot open up the skin enough to allow for bleeding. Also the needles are inserted only a few millimetres into the skin. Occasionally a needle on a sensitive area of the body may hurt upon insertion, but this is due the toxicity of that particular pressure point and in fact can act as an alert that the right point has been targeted.
